Fast Facts

Circular Sounds was launched in November 2007 with the aims of:

Addressing the needs of people, groups or organizations, regardless of their circumstances, who:

  • find themselves at a significant crossroad in life,
  • have lost personal connection to who they are, or what they want from life
  • are looking for their own answers.

CS addresses these needs by reconnecting people to their :

  • innate creative ability and potential
  • personal values, priorities and desires
  • unique combination of skills and talents
  • hidden or unacknowledged thoughts, feelings and ideas,

CS does this through a unique combination of creative activities which include play, guided imagery, art, music and movement. The benefits for people are:

  • the discovery of previously untapped potential & how to use it to help themselves
  • a rewiring of the brain so as to bypass unhelpful belief systems and self imposed limitations
  • experience in finding new & exciting ways to look at lifeʼs challenges & what may be gained from them
  • the uncovering of answers they never knew they had
  • a realization of how they fit within a wider whole • an increased sense of self worth & the value of their contribution to the world they live in.

Places and Situations where CS can be applied:

  • Individuals – workshops and private sessions
  • Artists – to address “creative block”, develop ideas and form collaborations with others
  • Business – for brainstorming, team building and problem solving
  • Conflict – as a tool for bringing fractured communities back together or resolving disputes
  • Schools – as a learning tool and for building the school community
  • Trauma – to address the needs of people with behavioural and emotional challenges

Darren and Joellen:

They met in 2002 at the School of Sacred Sound, Australia. Both entered into their Teacher Training with a desire to connect more authentically with their voices and to learn to express themselves more fully in the world.

In 2004 after their second Teacher Training they were sitting on a beach talking over their plans for the future and it was then that the idea for Circular Sounds was born.

Darren Abrahams is British and a professional opera singer who has performed all over the world. He is also a workshop leader, trauma therapist and coach. Joellen Lily is Australian and an artist. She has a background in community development work as a training program facilitator, and in recent years as a teacher in the process of mandala painting.

Though from widely divergent backgrounds and life experiences, they each arrived at the same place – a commitment to empowering others through creativity.
